Top Tips: Making the Best Impression in Video Interviews

Check out our top tips for helping to nail your video interviews:

• Test your tech and set up your shot. A plain/clear uncluttered background works best.
• Research! The company, the job role and who is interviewing you....

• Practice your video interview skills ahead of time, including answers to potential interview questions and don’t forget your elevator pitch.

• Make sure you know your CV! Have a copy to hand, write prompt cards as needed with key experience and skills relevant to the role.

• Dress to impress! You are naturally more confident if you look and feel your best.

• Position yourself just right, sit up straight and have good body language and check your lighting, avoid glare!

• Keep and maintain good eye contact, look at your camera rather than the screen.

• Be clear when you speak, pay attention to how you sound. Always be prepared for small talk!

• Try not to talk too fast, remember to pause at the end of a question so that you don’t talk over the interviewer (slight time delay is likely).

• Remember to smile and look interested and try not to waffle! If they are fidgeting and looking bored, then they are.
